New Zealand's Parliament Structure

New Zealand’s Parliament consists of the Sovereign and the House of Representatives. The Sovereign’s role in Parliament includes opening and dissolving Parliament, and giving the Royal assent to bills passed in the House of Representatives.
New Zealand’s Parliament is unicameral. This means it has only one chamber (the House of Representatives) and there is no upper house such as a senate.
The House of Representatives consists of members of Parliament who are elected as the people’s representatives for a term of up to 3 years. The usual number of members of Parliament is 120, but there are electoral circumstances when this could vary.

Black Lives Matter Auckland Protest

George Floyd was killed by the hands of 4 police officers in Minneapolis. Many people across the world were shocked and started protesting. Although the protesting was peaceful, they were breaching Covid-19 restriction rules by not social distancing. A lot of people also started looting and there were many riots.
Jacinda Ardern stated this morning that she'd like to think the aftermath of the Christchurch
terrorist attack demonstrated that as a nation if we see racism, hatred, or intolerance, that we
call it out.
The author of the article says they would stand with everyone else in being horrified by what we've seen but at the same time, we need to show that and express that solidarity in a way that makes sure we're looking after one another as well."
I think people should what they think is right, but at the same time think before they act. Peacefully protesting to end racism is right and I think it is necessary. But while protesting in current times, you are putting people in danger. Basically social distance while protesting.

NZ moving to level 2

New Zealand is finally moving into level 2 after about 6 weeks. That means we can finally go shopping, out to restaurants, movies, etc. I'm really looking forward to meeting my friends again. A lot of shops haven't opened yet and most of them are the ones I wanted to go to, so I guess I'm not going shopping. But I cant wait to play volleyball at school with my friends.

Made in Taiwan Documentary

In this documentary, Oscar Kightley and Nathan Rarere use DNA technology in this documentary to trace the origins of their kin. We learn that their ancestors originated from Taiwan before migrating through Vanuatu (and the Cook Islands, for those heading to Aotearoa), to the Pacific. We meet local people on the DNA trail and notice striking cultural similarities-even in Taiwan, where the indigenous people look Polynesian and provide a haka-like welcome.
